AWE on tv
Some drawings Henrique made for the AWE project made it to TV! They were part of the background during a scene at the "California Design School" on the ABC Family Channel show "Lincoln Heights". It appears all the drawings in the background of the pictures below are AWE design studies. I don't have much more info than that, but I think it's really neat that the Animated Work Environment is getting some interesting recognition. Go Henrique!

Graduation!
Just wanted to put it out there: I have been graduated!
Yesterday I received my Master's Degree in Applied Psychology. My concentration is Human Factors.
Yay me!
ETRA presentation
ETRA '08 was this week, I didn't get to present but Michael and Andrew took care of it. I just thought I'd share the presentation they gave. Enjoy.
ETRA conference paper
The EyeWrite study has now gotten two papers for publication. The newest one is for ETRA. This one actually has the experimental results, showing that EyeWrite did well, but not quite as well as the On Screen QWERTY. It's unfortunate that EyeWrite didn't "win", but I'm still happy with the results. We are looking to continue this line of research, since EyeWrite shows some promise, by using the word completion code. We may also use EyeWrite as a way to enter commands since it takes up much less screen real estate. Click here for the paper.
Clemson HFES website
Last year I was elected to the Webmaster position of the Clemson University Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES). I decided that I wanted to redo the site and create something a bit more interesting and interactive
I also decided I wanted to do something interesting for IE 802, which is "Human-computer interaction". So, I asked the professor, Dr. Greenstein, if I could do the HFES website as the class project.
That turned out to be a fantastic idea because I had some great people on my development team:
Matt Garbarino, Nathan Klein, and Shiva Subramaniam.
The new site can be found at www.clemsonhfes.org
The old site can be found at http://people.clemson.edu/~hfes
Please check out the new site, and feel free to sign up and get posting!
Contact info and HFES work
I realized I didn't have contact information for myself on the site, which is a big no-no. I have rectified that situation with a "contact" page. Please avail yourself to it if you need to contact me.
Also, I have finally gotten the password for the HFES website. So, I've done some updates. I haven't made any changes to the look or usability of the site (neither of which I particularly like) because we are working on a ground-up redesign. That should debut in the next two months or so. Hopefully, it will help the club take on it's new role as "Clemson HFES" rather than "HFES Student Chapter". I hope to have much more site participation and input from faculty, alumni, and perhaps even area HF professionals. If you have some input feel free to contact me.
Back to the grindstone!
Well, it's been a busy few weeks.
I've been working feverishly to finish up a testable prototype for my internship, while working on Balloonfest stuff. Of course, everyone around was all-hands-on-deck for the Balloonfest, too. That left me little time to work on the website . I haven't even gotten to the stage of surveying users, yet. I guess I'll be working on that over this semester, too. Still, it's the intranet that's so exciting. Developing something new like that for a company the size of AC government is a unique challenge, so I can't wait to get some user feedback on that.
By then it's the end of August; back to school time.
This semester I'm taking 1 class, which is IE802, Human-computer interface design. So far it's a lot of fun. Everything else is research. I'm trying to finish up my Master's thesis, trying to finish my internet search research with Lee, and get some work done on the diabetes research. Oh, and I have an assistantship with the AWE team, too!
So, needless to say it will be a busy semester, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
