I just want to share this with people. It’s a new usability tool to simulate eye tracking and also visual blur. It can be a great tool, especially for those of us who don’t have eye trackers around the house. It’s called the Stompernet Scrutinizer, and it was developed by my friend Andy Edmonds.

Here’s a short video screencast of the scrutinizer.

So, go download it, and have fun!

I decided to make some changes to the site. I have now upgraded to the latest stable version of WordPress (2.3.1). I have also made some changes to the “Zen in Grey” theme, originally designed by Sajith M . I’ve now added the Clemson HFES site to the projects pages. Hopefully it has increased the usability of the site. I think it looks nicer, anyway.

ETRA conference paper

The EyeWrite study has now gotten two papers for publication. The newest one is for ETRA. This one actually has the experimental results, showing that EyeWrite did well, but not quite as well as the On Screen QWERTY. It’s unfortunate that EyeWrite didn’t “win”, but I’m still happy with the results. We are looking to continue this line of research, since EyeWrite shows some promise, by using the word completion code. We may also use EyeWrite as a way to enter commands since it takes up much less screen real estate. Click here for the paper.

Clemson HFES website

Last year I was elected to the Webmaster position of the Clemson University Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES). I decided that I wanted to redo the site and create something a bit more interesting and interactive

I also decided I wanted to do something interesting for IE 802, which is “Human-computer interaction”. So, I asked the professor, Dr. Greenstein, if I could do the HFES website as the class project.

That turned out to be a fantastic idea because I had some great people on my development team:
Matt Garbarino, Nathan Klein, and Shiva Subramaniam.
The new site can be found at www.clemsonhfes.org
The old site can be found at http://people.clemson.edu/~hfes

Please check out the new site, and feel free to sign up and get posting!

ACnet

My test Drupal install of ACnet is up.
It probably won’t look like much to you, but then, it’s not supposed to. It’s an online intranet for Anderson County employees to communicate.
It’s built on the open source cms Drupal, which is pretty good stuff. It’s not as easy to use as I’d like, but…. it’s pretty darn good.
I hope to be testing some users soon.

Coming soon will also be the test site for the Clemson HFES chapter as the current site is…. well it’s a site :)

By we, I mean me :)
I’ve moved everything over to Clemsonlinux, because they offer more space, more flexibility, and better software.
