How to join CLUG

So you want to join the Clemson Linux User Group, eh? Want to learn more about us first? This page should help you with that.

Becoming a member of CLUG is simple. All you need to do is show interest in the club and contribute to its growth. That can be done in many ways, here are a few:

  • Come to meetings, installfests or other events
  • Participate in the forums, on the mailing list, or chat with us on IRC

It's that simple. CLUG's greatest asset is the knowledge of its members, and sharing your knowledge and presence with us is the best way to get involved.

There is another level of membership that requires a little more dedication to attain. You might call this full membership. To become a full member, one must contribute to CLUG on a higher level, whether that be financially, or with donations of equipment, time or other resources. Here are a few examples:

  • Make a donation to CLUG - minimum of $10 per semester
  • Donate some hardware or other equipment
  • Become a club officer
  • Contribute heavily to one of our projects
  • Help organize CLUG events
  • Make major contributions to the adoption of Linux/Free software at Clemson

The above examples are not the only ways of becoming a full member, but you get the idea. There are benefits to full membership which include:

  • A shell account and web space on our server
  • Access to CLUG's collection of books and other non-web resources
  • Access to restricted/members-only areas on our web site
  • Opportunity to join us on any club trips
  • First chance at and lowered rates on any CLUG merchandise (shirts, stickers, etc.)
  • Operator status in #clug on IRC
  • Honor, respect and recognition ;)
