Our members have cast their votes and black is the winning color for the CLUG shirts. That's not to say that the poll was without problems...Many noted that while the label on the shirt and the poll option for the "purple" shirt was incorrect, as this was actually a dark blue shirt. This was an error on my part, there wasn't actually much red in that color at all, but I didn't notice (I blame red-green deficiency as the cuplrit).
Either way, it seems like a lot of people actually like the dark blue looking shirts, so I will see if we can order some dark blue shirts as well from Tiger Town Graphics without any extra charges being added for those shirts.
I'll probably place the shirt order today, and I'll surely have them by this Sunday's installfest. The cost of the shirts will depend on the final price, which I'll know (and post) very soon. Of course once we know how much they'll be, we'll put them up for sale on the CLUG Store.

There's currently a poll on the front page of this site asking for your opinion regarding the color of the CLUG t-shirts that will be printed soon. We will only choose one color, whichever one our members vote their favorite over the next few days. The proof of shirt design is up here in the gallery showing each of the sihrt color options with the logo in place.

Over the break, there was an extremely high number of spam edits on Linux 101, our Linux learning wiki. Spammers have been consistently targeting it with automated script attacks, forcing us to fix numerous articles every day, sometimes more than once. MediaWiki (the software the site runs) provides no built-in way to prevent spammers from editing pages while we have allowed anonymous editing. Thus, we have decided to only allow trusted users to make edits - that is, to edit a page or write a new one, you must first create an account on the site and then we must approve you as an editor.

I know several of our members are go players, so this may be of interest:
The 22nd Annual US Go Congress will be held August 12-20 at Black Mountain, North Carolina.
We have about nine shirts left over from TigerLAN 3. We've decided to put these back up for sale in the CLUG Store, and you may buy them with credit card or PayPal. We have L and XL shirts left, and when you buy them I can arrange to meet you or you can come pick up your shirt at the CLUG meeting on October 20 at 8 PM in McAdams 119.
If you want one you'd better get it quickly, because we probably won't have them for long. All the proceeds from these sales go to funding TigerLAN 4. Thanks.

From Slashdot: "At the end of the 2004-2005 academic year, the Sun Solaris computers available in public computing labs at Duke University will be replaced. The replacement computers in these spaces will be Dells, running a version of CentOS 3.3 as supported by Linux@DUKE. Pragmatic and technical considerations have driven this change, as Linux continues to gain a greater userbase and more third-party commercial software is made available on the platform. Are other universities eliminating Solaris in favor of a Linux distribution?"

This is about O'Reilly's new "customizable book" program. It sounds interesting, has anyone used this or does anyone plan to? They sent me this in an email. What do you think?
O'Reilly and Safari Books Online announce SafariU, a new service that offers computer technology educators a rich platform for creating both online and print materials tailored precisely to your teaching needs. Safari Books Online is a joint venture of O'Reilly and the Pearson Technology Group.
Registered users of this site can simply visit the IRC applet page and they will be logged in to the channel. Your clemsonlinux.org username will be used as your IRC nick, your full name will be used as your IRC name, and your slogan (set it in your profile) will be your quit message. Nifty, huh?
Now you can come join us for Linux help, fun with bots, and occasionally mad ramblings.
Update 2005/02/02: We have moved from irc.gimp.org #clug to irc.freenode.net #clemsonlinux. There are several reasons for this.

This site now has a page dedicated to IRC info. What's more, I wrote some Perl scripts that post the logs from #clug in static pages on this site. It also adds them to the index on the IRC page. To see the chat logs, you must be a registered user on this site, and hang out in #clug enough for me to give you permissions to view them. ;)
