CLUG is not just about Linux, it is also about promoting and spreading open source software. Consequently, many of our members are involved with or directly lead open source development projects for games, utilities, and other applications.
We'd like to hear what kind of projects you're involved with. Please post a comment on this article and let us know what you're working on and a URL for us to go peek at it. If you have something in the works but not released, also feel free to speak up.
TheOpenCD, a collection of Free Software for that other operating system, has released a new version. It includes the latest versions of all the software on TheOpenCD 2.0, the same great autorun menu that opens when the CD is inserted, and now, it also includes a bootable LiveCD based on Ubuntu Linux.
Applications on the CD include Firefox, Gaim, OpenOffice, AbiWord, Audacity, Nvu, Gimp, TuxPaint, Thunderbird and many more. Download the ISO and burn a copy for your favorite Windows user.
If you are on the Clemson campus network, you may now download the latest version of Ubuntu Linux as well as Kubuntu from our on-campus ISO mirror. There are also several other distributions available there.
Ubuntu just released their second version (Hoary Hedgehog) and Kubuntu released for the first time along with it. Kubuntu is Ubuntu Linux but with KDE instead of Gnome, and all the things that go with the KDE desktop and toolset.

In a rather surprising turn of events, Ben Goodger (FireFox's Project Leader), has bee hired by Google. While his source of income is now Google rather than Mozilla, he claims that he will remain just about as active as he has been with the development of FireFox. The results of this combining of interests may result in some FireFox/Google integration in the future. See the full article test for the blog entry.

I would've never expected to see this, but it would appear that widespread popularity of FireFox has turned AOL's heads enough to revitalize Netscape. They are expected to open a beta of their latest version of Netscape based on FireFox.
BetaNews commented on the development: Despite media reports and industry pundits over the years relegating Netscape to Internet history books, AOL has restarted the browser's development. The company plans to bring back a refreshed Netscape browser based on Firefox, which will incorporate an enhanced user interface and several new features.
