All CLUG members are invited (and encouraged) to come help out for the CU Fall Semester Linux Workshop. Basically, it's an Ubuntu Installfest for the engineering students. Two will be hosted on August 20 from 1-4 PM and on August 21 from 8-11 AM in Martin 301. Just find me, Ross Squires, and I'll direct to whom to help. All hardware/software will be provided.

Jay Harris recently sent me word that he had added Fedora Core 5 Linux to the Clemson Computer Science Department's Linux mirror. This mirror can be accessed by anyone with a valid CS department account. Log into your favorite machine and cd /pub/linux. While the CS department does not yet have any DVD burners available in the lab, Jay said he would look into doing something about this.
He also mentioned that he'd be willing to add some other distributions. I've got one or two of my favorites in mind already. What else do you guys suggest? For those too lazy to log in and look for yourself, here's the list of currently available distributions:

I've just added a new forum where people looking to fill jobs that CLUG members might be interested in can post information about these jobs, so that our members can contact them. Here are my guidelines for the forum and here's a link to the Job Offers forum itself.

You can add web calendars to any program that supports the iCalendar format. They can also schedule for the calendar to be refreshed automatically so that it is always updated. We provide a feed with all the official Clemson calendar dates.
TigerLAN is Clemson's biggest semesterly gaming event. This is the third semester CLUG has sponsored the LAN party, and this looks like it will be the best one so far. It will be just as big as the last ones, but this time we will be gaming all night long!
You can now pre-pay for the Fall 2005 TigerLAN at the CLUG store for $7. We accept PayPal as well as major credit cards. Admission at the door will be $10 (cash only). Last day to pre-pay is Tuesday, Oct. 4.
TigerLAN starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, and will last until noon the following day. We'll hold tournaments in Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield 2, Counter-Strike:Source and much more. Linux gamers can come and enjoy open source games as well as Linux-ported commercial games. We'll be gaming in the same location as previous events, Hardin Hall auditorium.
CLUG will be attending the Freshman Orientation Organization Fair from 9 - 10 p.m. tonight, and for the rest of the dates which are posted on our calendar. You'll see us standing by a poster that looks like this representing CLUG, TigerLAN, and planetClemson.com. If you're a member and want to come help us meet and greet incoming students and their parents, please join us in the Palmetto Ballroom (downstairs in the old student union). If you met us there and want to learn more about us...

This Saturday there is a chance of freezing rain or snow. We will still be in Martin Hall, M101-M102 from 1-5 (if you're helping, show up at noon) having an installfest, in whatever capacity we can. If turnout is not very good, we may schedule another installfest in a few weeks. Check the Clemson weather forecast for current forecast.

The end of the semester is here, as most are ending their exams today--except the few unlucky ones on Saturday. Take a quick journey back with me to see what we've done over the semester.

The Driving Simulator is a project of the Psychology Department at Clemson University, headed by Dr. Fred Switzer. On Friday October 29, I interviewed Dr. Switzer and test drove the simulation. You can see the pictures I took, and read the interview and my impressions of the driving simulator below.
I just got ClemsonForge set up and ready to accept new users. "ClemsonForge is an open source project management site much like SourceForge. This site is not intended to replace SourceForge, but to encourage open source development at Clemson by providing powerful, easy to use tools. ... This site will help you and your project manage file releases, manage documentation, announce news, survey users, track issues, manage tasks, and much more." There are no projects up there yet, but there will be soon. Special thanks to SquishyWaffle for the idea.
Note to CLUG members who already have shell accounts on the new server: you will need to create an account with a username other than that of your shell account. I can merge your shell and ClemsonForge accounts and change the username to whatever you want later, just use a different name for now.
