Freshman Orientation Organizations Fair

ClemsonCLUG will be attending the Freshman Orientation Organization Fair from 9 - 10 p.m. tonight, and for the rest of the dates which are posted on our calendar. You'll see us standing by a poster that looks like this representing CLUG, TigerLAN, and planetClemson.com. If you're a member and want to come help us meet and greet incoming students and their parents, please join us in the Palmetto Ballroom (downstairs in the old student union). If you met us there and want to learn more about us...

Each semester we aim to host at least three installfests. These are events usually held in one of Clemson's "smart classrooms" for easy availability of outlets and network jacks. People bring their computers (laptops and desktops) and we help them install Linux. We usually recommend Ubuntu Linux to new users because it's fast, easy and it just works.

If you're looking for Linux documentation, take a look at our Linux learning wiki. Over the last year many different members of CLUG have contributed part of their Linux knowledge to this site in the hope that it will become a useful resource for both new and experienced Linux users.

If you enjoy playing computer games be sure to check out TigerLAN. This is a LAN party we hold once every semester. The next event will occur sometime in the middle of next semester, so watch the site for the date when it's posted! In the past we've had prizes from sponsors, fairly large turnout, food and drinks, and a reasonable admission price. If you're interested in playing games on Linux, don't miss our Linux Games section, as well as LinuxGames.com and The Linux Game Tome.

If you're interested in trying Linux, be sure to watch for dates for DCIT's dual-boot workshops just before the beginning of the semester. CLUG's own Jay Camp has been working for DCIT since the beginning of the summer developing special Clemson packages for Ubuntu Linux, which will be provided along with the default Windows install at the workshops. Clemson-licensed software will be provided preinstalled on these Linux/Windows images. All the Clemson Thinkpads are supported including the newest T43, plus many other brands of laptops.

Finally, if you're looking for a friendly social site at Clemson check out planetClemson.com. It has forums, games, weather, news, maps, blogs, chat, photos, and more. It's easy and free so join today!

Thanks again for stopping by and we hope to see you at a meeting or installfest next semester.
