Hey all! I was browsing the internet and discovered that Adobe Acrobat Reader version 7 is available for linux! Unfortunately, you cannot simply download it from their website via the normal navigation. However if you use gentoo you can emerge it by adding "app-text/acroread ~x86" to your package.keywords file or by setting the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS environment variable. For everyone else, they have the tar.gz and .rpm files on their ftp server at
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/enu/AdbeRdr70_linux_enu.tar.gz
and
ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/enu/AdobeReader_enu-7.0.0-1.i386.rpm
On my system, the new version is must faster and on all systems it's beautiful. They use gtk2 for the rendering, so no more MOTIF!!! Also, you get the support for forms editing for such things as tax returns and you don't have to worry about pdf's being rendered incorrectly!
This marks yet another feature to the linux desktop to make it more competitive with those "other" operating systems. Thank you Adobe for supporting linux!
