Hi guys
Can I upgrade the processor in my laptop? If so, what to?
I'm looking for suggestions, preferably on-the-cheap.

Currently I using a compaq presario v2000 with 2gb ram (maxed out) and an AMD sempron processor 1.79ghz

Can this sucker be upgraded?

Thanks
james

No, you can not, sorry.

EDIT: Actually, you can probably upgrade to a Turion 64. A 1.8Ghz one you can probably get on ebay for like $15, but the difference you'll see is probably negligible. If anything, your battery life will probably suffer. The best you can do is a Turion 64 ML-40, which is still only a single-core 2.2Ghz, but has a much beefier L2 cache than your current CPU (as does the 1.8Ghz one), but those will probably run you about $100-125 or so.

In 1975 the main processors for home computers (the term PC was not used at this time) was either the 4 bit Motorola 6800 or the MOS (metal-oxide-semiconductor) Technology 6502, although these were true computers. They did not have keyboard or video, they relied on a TV to display the video and 'Joy' sticks to control the work. These were considered 'Game' machines. At the same time Texas Instruments was developing a system called the TI 99. It would debut in the late 1970's and would introduce the external components for storage.
