| In my experience they're pretty much even. It's more the GPU/Sound/Network/Wireless stuff that you worry about. |

They are more or less the same in Linux (support-wise) but AMD is faster, cheaper, and cooler generally. AMD CPU + nVidia graphics is the way to go for a kickass Linux box, imho.  _________________ chris

| but, Intel is highly over-clockable, OCed my desktop by 20% and runs great, so if you are building from scratch I say intel is better, but def. an nvdia card or two if you want |

Old thread! My current machine is an Intel Core2Duo E3400 I built about a year ago, so take my previous comments with a grain of salt. AMD is still cheaper, but recently they tend to run hotter and aren't quite as fast as some of the more recent Intels. That said, I really like the machine I have at work, which is a 2-CPU AMD Opteron 2222 with 8 GB RAM. Who could complain about having 4 CPUs?!? _________________ chris
