So, I have used the Ubuntu install to install Adobe Flash and the Gnash. However, none of the Flash in web pages works. Did I install it in the wrong order? Has it never really worked? How can I fix it?
Yea, the same thing happened to me. If you go to adobes website and download the flash package i think its a tar. Then just install it. I think to install it all you have to do is ./install or configure something like that but that should be obvious if you look at what files are in that folder. Then it asks you where firefox is located on your system. Its the same where mozilla would be located in their example so i believe its just /usr/lib/firefox.
Then just restart your browser.
Doing that worked for me.

This worked perfectly! Thank you!
I had tried this on my own before but the install prompted for /usr/lib/mozilla. Well, that directory is empty. I looked for the /usr/lib/firefox directory and installed it there. Now everything is good in the world!

The bug is that Flash videos don't play for certain Firefox 3 users on Windows XP or Vista, when using the current Flash player version 9. On YouTube, CNET TV, and other sites, embedded videos will start, but they halt after two seconds. Both Mozilla and Adobe have been aware of the issue since late May, but as yet no solution has been found. For some people suffering from this bug, it's intermittent. For others, it's a consistent block to viewing online videos.
